What is Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder, medically known as adhesive capsulitis, is understood in Ayurveda as “Apabahuka,” a condition caused mainly by aggravated Vata Dosha affecting the shoulder joint, muscles, tendons, and surrounding tissues. It leads to stiffness, severe shoulder pain, restricted arm movement, and weakness in the shoulder region.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Frozen Shoulder
Ayurvedic treatment for frozen shoulder focuses on balancing Vata Dosha, reducing inflammation, improving blood circulation, and restoring joint mobility naturally. Therapies such as Abhyanga (medicated oil massage), Pizhichil, Njavarakizhi, Patra Pinda Sweda, and Panchakarma are widely used along with herbal medicines to relieve pain, improve flexibility, and strengthen shoulder muscles.
Frozen Shoulder Symptoms
Common symptoms include shoulder stiffness, difficulty lifting the arm, pain during movement, reduced flexibility, neck and upper back discomfort, and disturbed sleep due to pain.
According to Ayurveda, improper lifestyle habits, excessive stress, injury, aging, poor circulation, diabetes, and accumulation of toxins (Ama) can disturb Vata and reduce lubrication in the joints, resulting in frozen shoulder.
